Dr. Miguel Humberto Maciás Castro – Sustainability Advisor, La Paz
Dr. Miguel Humberto Maciás Castro was born in La Paz, Baja California Sur México in 1963. He has a long and varied professional past. He attended the prestigious Universitario Autonomo de México from 1970-1979, specializing in industrial medicine and anthropology. He went on to study and work in industrial medicine and psychology in Havana, Cuba in 1979 to 1980 before going on to teach at the Universitario Autonomo de México in 1982 to 1985. He has also served as part of the governmental oversight committees for both industry and social medicine in Mexico City/the state of México, as well Central/South America during this period. From 1989 to 2002 he worked as a doctor for the fishing and packing industry for some 28 different business entities in Sonora, Baja California, Sonora and as medical staff for the University of Baja California Sur where he taught and assisted students of the Industrial Fishing and Engineering program.
Miguel is a recycling enthusiast, as is evident in his family’s unique and funky, Arte Museo Hotel Yeneka – a working recycling display in the downtown historic district of La Paz that is well known throughout the city and surrounding areas. He has run his family’s hotel since 2002 – which is where he met Keith Bonarrigo. Keith and Miguel connected immediately via their respective interests in recycling, reuse, and social responsibility and have been developing the solar program in La Paz ever since. Miguel serves as the La Paz contact for the Green Go Solar Project and continues to develop new and innovative methods to reduce and reuse existing material in industry, energy, and art.
