He grew up and went to high school in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Then later attended UW-Milwaukee to earn a degree in mechanical engineering. It was while studying at UWM, during a study abroad trip to Germany, did his interests focus toward renewable energy. His love and sense of wonder for the natural world began at a young age, so the idea of living sustainably with this planet resonated with him.
Upon graduation from UW-Milwaukee, Joey worked on engine cooling products as an engineer for Modine Manufacturing. Although Modine provided a great opportunity, pursuing a more values aligned interest was important for Joey. He first started learning about the specifics of solar energy through classes provided by the MREA. Many doors have opened since then.
Joey’s interest in renewables lead him to Costa Rica for a volunteer workshop in 2016. Which is where he met Keith, who had been placed in charge of the workshop’s DIY panel build class. This was his first hands on experience with installing a small off-grid system as well as participating in a Green Go Solar Project DIY panel build. He loved the idea of using recycled solar cells and giving them to areas that need them the most.
Immediately upon return from Costa Rica, Joey started at Namaste Solar as an Installer in Denver, Colorado. Working at Namaste has given Joey the opportunity to gain experience daily and learn the ins and outs of solar technology. This is where he now continues to grow and make an impact on transitioning the world to clean energy. Off the job site, Joey is most often found in the mountains adventuring, and enjoying the terrain in as many ways as possible.
Joey and Keith kept in touch after the Costa Rica workshop and Joey ultimately came on board. He’s excited to contribute to the team on upcoming projects. Joey is a field agent and co-developer of workshop curriculum for our upcoming series of solar workshops to take place in Baja, as well as other parts of the world.
